I sit
In the dark.
The moon
My only light.
And here,
In my arms.
The cold still flesh.
My latest prey.
The cry
My heart
Should it be
Still beating,
Would be pounding.
The thrill.
The smell
Of his fear.
When I
Showed the truth
Of my identity.
He ran.
I gave chase.
My laugh
Chilling him through.
Life is
A fleeting thing.
Fleeing away,
Like a deer.
Like him.
Here I caught him.
And he fell
To his knees
Before me.
Pleading.
For what?
I asked him.
And he could
Give no answer.
He died,
As I fed.
His last
Breath escaping silently.
His eyes flutter
Suddenly
And a weak groan
Escapes him.
I smile.
He shivers
Under my gaze.
\"Who are you?\"
His voice hoarse.
\"I am you,
you are me.\"
\"What do you mean?\"
\"You are one of us.\"
Silence reigns.
Our eyes meet.
I stroke
his cold cheek
With one finger.
And I leave.
Leave him
To follow,
To wonder,
To fear,
To hope,
Perhaps to dream.
My whisper fades
Into the night,
\"Death is
Only the beginning.\"

'"You going to break down my door again?"
"Never," I whispered.
"You going to defy me in any way in particular?"
"Never in any way ever."
"Further words?"
"I love you."
"I'm sure."
"But I do," I said sniffling.'
For some reason this made me think of Hamlet. Very nice free verse style. I really like how you forced the comparison between the victim and his killer. Makes you wonder if the victim will turn into the same type of torturing predator once he finally realizes what he is!
